One of the newest full-length textbooks to be digitized on Connexions is "Fundamentals of Mathematics", by Denny Burzynski and Wade Ellis. The book covers a plethora of pre-algebra topics, as well as topics like estimation and elementary analytic geometry, which lets it serve equally well as preparation for an algebra course or as review of basic math concepts.
The authors explain topics with clear wording as well as symbols and mathematics so that learners of all types may benefit. It also includes plenty of practice problems, exercises, review questions, as well as answers to the practice problems.
Burzynski and Ellis have also co-authored "Elementary Algebra", which can also be found on Connexions.
